Patricia Kennealy Morrison, who claims to be the widow of Doors front man Jim Morrison, says her late husband would not have wanted to be pardoned for rude contact in 1969.
Jim Morrison was accused of exposing his penis during a concert on March 1, 1969 at the Dinner Key Auditorium in Miami, Fla. He was appealing the confidence when he was found dead in a bathtub in Paris in 1971.
Gov. Charlie Crist, who leaves office Jan. 4, requested the pardon, saying that "something [Morrison] may or may not have done" was a "blot" on the record of a significant artist. The Clemency Board decided the pardon unanimously Thursday.
Prior to the ruling, Patricia Kennealy Morrison told the linked Press that she did not think the pardon to be appropriate because the singer did not expose himself onstage. She said the conviction should be expunged or the verdict overturned instead.
"The pardon says that all his suffering and all that he went through during the trial, everything both of us went through was negated," she told AP.
Kennealy Morrison claims she married Morrison in a pagan ceremony officiated by a certified Presbyterian minister about a year before the singer's death. She says the ceremony is considered applicable, but the couple never filed the paperwork to make it official.
