Jack Lalanne, dead at 96 due to respiratory failure-Fitness icon Jack LaLanne, a man who pushed Americans to pump iron, eat better & lose weight for over 70 years, has died. they was 96.
"You must understand that it was absolutely forbidden in those days for athletes to make use of weights. It just wasn't done. they had athletes who used to sneak in to the studio to work out," they once said.
LaLanne was a fitness pioneer, opening the first of his plenty of exercise studios in 1936. they focused on weight-training at a time when the idea of pumping iron was strictly taboo, for ladies.
"Back then, ladies weren't supposed to make use of weights. I guess I was a pioneer," LaLanne said.
Athletic trainers believed bulking up would slow athletes down & ladies were supposed to look curvy & feminine, not athletic & toned.
LaLanne became a household name after they launched a televised exercise program in the 1950s that aired until the 1970s. they would forever after be known for his dedication to healthy living & his signature one-piece belted workout suit.
"This is a nation of tired people," they said, in an hard work to encourage people to exercise. "Everyone is suffering from that chroinc disease that i love to call pooped-out-itis."
LaLanne is survived by his wife & workout partner Elaine, his one sons Dan & Jon, & a daughter, Yvonne.
"Inactivity is a killer," LaLanne once said. "The only way you can hurt the body isn't use it."
"I have not only lost my husband & a great American icon, but the best mate & most loving partner someone could ever hope for," Elaine LaLanne said in a statement. The one had been married for 51 years.
