The Big 10 Named Division
The Big 10 Named Division- Legends and Leaders are the names for the six-team divisions that the will start with the 2011 season, and the nods to past contributions and future actions create at once a dissimilarity and co-mingling of ... "geez, it's all a little highfalutin, isn't it?"
You get the sense no one at Big Ten headquarters stopped Commissioner Jim Delany before the announcement and said, "Dude, they're just football divisions."
"We're hopeful that they will vibrate over time," Delany said, "and they will give us an opportunity to speak to our past as well as our future."
Commendable, sure. The Big Ten should be bigger than the games. But the conference, with one football national title in 13 years of the BCS era, wasn't naming research facilities here.
Leaders (the division with Ohio State and Penn State) and Legends (the division with Michigan and Nebraska) comes off as a bit self-important for a discussion that doesn't fear reminding the rest of the college world that it is calling a lot of the shots. In a Sports Business Journal listing last week of the 50 most powerful people in sports business, Delany was ranked No. 25, the highest ranking for anyone in college sports -- seven spots ahead of new NCAA president Mark Emmert.
At a forum of conference commissioners in New York last week, Delany wasn't shy about telling the non-BCS conferences that the Big Ten was getting a little tired of giving up more spots in the Rose Bowl and other major bowls -- "I'm not sure how much more give there is in the system," Delany told the panel.
One of the biggest stories of the bowl season was Ohio State president E. Gordon Gee calling into question the fitness of schools like TCU and Boise State to play for the national championship. Maybe we're just lucky the Big Ten didn't go with "Awesome" and "Awesome."

Jenifer Ringer Responds to Alastair
Jenife Ringer Responds to Alastair -New York City Ballet dancer Jenifer Ringer appeared on the Today Show this morning to take action to a comment made about her weight in a recent NY Times review of her performance in The Nutcracker. The quip heard round the internet, dance critic Alastair Macaulay's comment that RInger looked like "she'd eaten one sugar plum too many" has been vilified, but has gone un-apologized for. Macaulay responded to the chaos with a follow up in the NY Times defending his decision to comment on the dancer's body under the good reason that if you'd rather not be critiqued on your body, don't enter the world of dance.
The good reason Macaulay makes is not a new one and this issue has been raised before in dance criticism. However, the dance-world and media chaos about his criticism also derive from the fact that Ringer had previously been very open about her eating disorders in the past, having admitted to overeating and anorexia. On this morning's Today Show, Ringer paid a visit to reply to this issue in person as well as to discuss the artistic of an ideal ballet dancer's body, especially as highlighted by Natalie Portman's shocking weight loss for Black Swan.

Kirby Smart welcome to Florida
Kirby Smart welcome to Florida - According to both the Tuscaloosa News and Gainesville Sun, new Gators head trainer Will Muschamp has offered his suspicious manager position to Tide coordinator Kirby Smart.
The News reports that it’s Smart’s job to turn down, although it’s not known whether a formal offer that includes financial terms has been made. A source close to Smart told CFT this afternoon that he has yet to make a decision on the offer.
A decision from Smart is expected within the next 24 hours, and Saban is pushing very hard for Smart to eschew what would be a lateral move.
Almost immediately upon Muschamp being confirmed as Urban Meyer‘s replacement Saturday night, Smart was connected to the UF job. Muschamp and Smart served on the same staffs at Valdosta State and LSU, and remain very close friends.
