Gonzaga University

BYU Tournament Final Run Gonzaga University, 89-67

Gonzaga has become a school of mid-major that seems to play only in the regular season to try to increase their ranking in the NCAA tournament.

It was not this year. Gonzaga left the streak of nine wins just to make the tournament.

They were rewarded with an eleventh and a seed opening game against San Juan. Also entered the tournament with very little buzz.

Gonzaga, then created their own buzz with an impressive 86-71 victory and complete St. John's.

This victory led many, including myself predicted that BYU would advance past and cruise into Sweet 16 Jimmer Fredette had different ideas. Fredette was a bit 'slow, but heated as the game went.

He finished with 34 points and was an incredible 7-for-12 from behind the bar.

Now there is nothing more to Gonzaga, but prepare for the next season. Ed is a season, and Gonzaga fans should be excited. Gonzaga is a young team, which has begun to understand how to play this season has gone.

When the 2012 NCAA Tournament rolls I guess he will not win the first round to Gonzaga to create buzz will be there already.

Gonzaga University

Gonzaga Beats St. John’s in NCAA as Kentucky - Gonzaga University played spoiler in the rear of St. John of the University in the men's college basketball national tournament after an absence of nine years.

Gonzaga, seeded 11 in the southeast, downed sixth-seeded St. John's 86-71 in the last three conditions yesterday in Denver, where No. 13 Louisville 62-61 and shocked Morehead State defeated No. 12 Richmond Vanderbilt 69-66.

"They had a wonderful year," Gonzaga coach Mark Few said St. John's. "But I could not be happier, our boys continue and you will get another chance to play again."

University of Kentucky, coach John Calipari breathed a sigh of relief after his Wildcats escaped with a 59-57 victory against Princeton University, yesterday in Tampa, Florida, to prevent its biggest drop in 51 unexpected trip to the National tournament Collegiate Athletic Association.

Thirteen of the 16 games won yesterday's favorites such as double-digit victory in Pittsburgh, Florida, San Diego State, Brigham Young, Connecticut and Wisconsin.

Morehead State took the first major upset tournament as an underdog of 10 1/2-point. Morehead, Kentucky school beat two-time national champion and Southwest Region No. 4 seed Louisville on a 3-point with 4.2 seconds left.

Big East Record

Gonzaga limited to the day from St. John's, a record 11 teams in the Big East Conference tournament. Spokane, Washington-based Bulldogs, so their 13th straight NCAA tournament appearance, held 41-18 advantage in speed and hitting 54 percent of their shots.

Gonzaga advances to play Brigham Young, the No. 3 seed in the Southeast, which beat Wofford 74-66 behind a 32 - point performance by Jimmer Fredette, top scorer in the nation.

"I'm glad you are able to live another day," Fredette said after hitting 10 of 25 shots.

Pittsburgh is the No. 1 regional seeds only in action yesterday, beating the University of North Carolina Asheville 74-51 in the Southeast. The other three heads start the tournament today, when 16 games are planned.

Ohio State, the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Region, met in Texas, San Antonio at Cleveland, and South-West-seeded Kansas plays Boston University in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Defending champion Duke, the best team in the West, will meet with Hampton University in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Butler advances

Butler University, which lost to Duke last year for the NCAA championship tournament, advanced yesterday to win 60-58 against Old Dominion Assembly period, Matt Howard. Next face eighth-seeded Pittsburgh to Butler.

Seventh-seeded Temple University has also won at the last second, beating 10th-seeded Penn State 66-64 in a contested jump shot by Juan Fernandez with 0.4 seconds on the clock.

The Owls move to a clash with number two San Diego State, which beat Northern Colorado 68-50 in Tucson, Arizona, for the first tournament victory in school history.

Florida No. 2 seed in the Southeast, defeated California in Santa Barbara and 79-51 against No. 7 UCLA, which held off No. 10 Michigan State 78-76 in Tampa.

Southeast No. 4 seed Wisconsin beat Belmont 72-58 in Tucson and next plays No. 5 Kansas State, 73-68 winner against Utah State.

Huskies cruise

Big East tournament champion Connecticut, seeded third in the West, bowed Bucknell 81-52 in Washington as Kemba Walker had 18 points and 12 assists. The Huskies, who opened 16-1 in the tournament since 1990 to promote the game in Cincinnati, which defeated Missouri 78-63. Connecticut's victory margin of 29 points is the most important matches yesterday.

"I do not think it would be easier, especially when I was in my hotel room watching all the games, watching riots," said Alex Oriakhi of Connecticut, who scored nine points. "I was a little nervous to be honest. I'm glad you managed to do it and win by much."

Kentucky battled past Princeton on driving layup Brandon Knight with two seconds left and the other play in West Virginia, which rallied for a 84-76 victory over Clemson.

Darius Miller scored 17 points and Josh Harrellson added 15 as Kentucky overcame a deficit in half by five points against the second representative of the Ivy League tournament.

Although Princeton has stalled, Morehead State victory means a seed has now won 13 in 20 of the last 27 NCAA tournaments.

Gonzaga

Gonzaga down sixth-seeded St. John's, 86-71 - This rack "11" is just a number. The name that comes with it - "Gonzaga" - means much more.

The Bulldogs have become too good to be considered a stranger on the other hand, even when the seedlings can be said.

Marquise Carter scored a career-high 24 points, lifting Gonzaga to a victory 86-71 over sixth-seeded St. John's on Thursday night to end a spectacular day for a double-digit seed at the Pepsi Center in the NCAA tournament.

Interactive NCAA Tournament Bracket 2011 men

The Bulldogs (25-9) was the third lowest seed to spring an upset in the Mile High City, joining No. 12 and No. 13 Richmond Morehead State.

Gonzaga used to all the favorites from mid-major, but the Bulldogs have grown accustomed in the tournament, a perennial Top 25 team. They looked the part of St. John's of the Big East and continue to face third-seeded BYU, the only team that survived a scare this floor. Jimmer Fredette led the Cougars defeated Wofford, 74-66.

Gonzaga used his size and muscle strength around the Red Storm (21-12), they were back in the tournament for the first time since 2002. Gonzaga outrebounded San Juan by a margin of 43-20.

It 'was a rare loss of the initial round of Steve Lavin, who is in his first season in the program over the course of decades ago, Lou Carnesecca. Lavin is now 10-2 and the first and second round of the NCAA tournament, a trademark, for the most part collected during his days at UCLA.

The Red Storm is not the same team without rebounds and team leader DJ Kennedy, who tore his ACL in the right Big East tournament. He sat on the bench in his warm, while lacing his shoes, hoping he might somehow the will of his way in the game.

Instead, Kennedy jumped on the bank, from time to time - as best he could, anyway - to try to turn his teammates.

Fans who have traveled from the Big Apple have shown their support to the eaves height, dressed in red "Do it for DJ" T-shirts.

Dwight Hardy led the St. John's scoring with 26 points, while Justin Brownlee added 14 Sean Evans, who met with Kennedy and had four points and six rebounds.

Basketball activities was booming again in San Juan as part of Lavin. The team was seeking its first victory at this stage since 2000 when they beat Northern Arizona in the first round.

Then, as now, St. John's was bounced from the tournament, Gonzaga, when the Bulldogs were still relatively unknown.

The Bulldogs are almost unknown to the tournament are now emerging, 13 straight.

They use their vast experience in the lead in the first 3-pointer Elias Harris 15:14 mark of the first half and never looked back.

Seven feet of Robert Sacre is a force down low Gonzaga, scoring nine points and nine rebounds. Steven Gray added 16 and Harris finished with 15.

Zag jumped out to a lead of 15 points in the first half to beat the ball inside and take advantage of its large size. The Bulldogs had a lot 'more to the court at all, not really a surprise, because they have nine players 6-foot-5 or higher.

St. John's began to cut into the lead late in the first half, which Brownlee was shot hit the buzzer to make the game 43-32 interval.

Gonzaga hit the winner at the end of the season, winning 10 straight games, including the West Coast Conference tournament title game against Saint Mary's to ensure the automatic bid.

Cougars will play the Bulldogs on Saturday, giving a quick overview of the WCC showdown between two schools in the years to come. BYU soon bolt Mountain West Conference in basketball in the WCC.

BYU and Gonzaga have never met in the field.

NFL Combine 2011Results

NFL Combine 2011Results: Jake Locker run in  4.52 in 40 yard dash - As expected, Jake Locker is an acquittal, as well as in parts of the 2011 NFL Combine that do not require passes. The Washington quarterback ran its course by 40 yards in a quick 4.52 seconds, the second quarter of Tyrode Taylor, and asks for a little sarcasm on Twitter and the views of experts who are not exactly convinced that Locker has shown it's worth a draft pick for now.

First Smart Football Chris Brown:

One last thought Locker. I like it, but could get all these looks QB, if he had a black QB in the spread of O who ran a 4.5 w / 54%?

Remember: Pat White ran a 4.55 time 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine, had a history of success and accuracy in college behind him - and was considered a poor choice, even before it is washed with dolphins .

And then there was the false Snark Mel Kiper:

Jake Locker run in  4.52 in 40 yard dash. A full-speed run down the defenders intercepted passes.

Nenad krstic

Hollinger take a risk by dealing with Perkins-With Sensational trade Thursday that sends Kendrick Perkins and Nate Robinson in Oklahoma City for Jeff Green and Nenad Krstic, the Celtics taking a big risk. But they are also reversing their noses in the two rivals.
Be aware that fans of the Lakers and Magic: The Celtics paris effectively against you.

They never say in so many words, but actions speak louder. And today's action says that when the time the playoffs roll, Boston believes it has depth perimeter, spacing the floor and less opportunity to play much more than necessary for advocates of low- post quality.

Translation: Miami is a threat here, not Orlando. And if they survive, San Antonio, not the Lakers, who now receive a better match.

No more low-post defensive Kendrick Perkins ace, but coming on board is versatile winger Jeff Green, and one suspects, ground-distance power forward Troy Murphy.

Celtics had better hope they're right, how the series plays out, because they certainly take a risk. On the one hand, they essentially put most of their eggs in one basket labeled "Shaquille O'Neal and Delonte West to stay healthy."

Hollinger also says: "However, we suspect that if the Celtics have seen so far the Lakers and Magic as their first two playoff threats would not have done this operation because the heat and the Spurs have played so well, of course, has changed. your way of thinking. "

Blake Griffin - Testimony Of A Dunk Contest

Blake Griffin - Testimony Of A Dunk Contest -Blake Griffin was attacked by a fan who claims to have the Fed Star Clippers idea for the car break alley-oop ... a fan who says he was rejected from this weekend Dunk Contest. The type of reference is Michael Scrivner - who says he was watching ESPN earlier this month when fans saw Griffin dunk ideas request ... So I sent a message to Twitter Blake February 8 that describes exactly the car mate - to step inside the sunroof.

NBA Trade: Gerald Wallace Probably Intended To Portland

The NBA trade deadline creeps closer, the fan favorite seems to send Charlotte Bobcats Gerald Wallace and the Portland Trail Blazers.

The Bobcats have been shopping Wallace in the league with a greater intensity in recent days and called for an expiring contract and a first-round pick in return.

As of 05:30 pm EsT on Wednesday, nothing has been officially announced by the team, but sources familiar with the situation say it is all but done.

Social networks are discussing a lot throughout the afternoon, where he concentrated the main topics of discussion on what is expected to return for the Bobcats. Several options were thrown around, but none of them seem to describe the Bobcats as the winners here.

The package is more likely to be Joel Przybilla at least one draft pick and cash considerations. Other combinations were Andre Miller and  or Marcus Camby, but it is believed Camby can stay rather than report to Charlotte, he is involved.

An exciting player who Bobcats wanted to return, Nicolas Batum, was apparently removed from the conversation.

Move, regardless of who is responsible, it means that Gerald Henderson probably would have started the Bobcats small forward, a clear downgrade from Wallace.

It seems that Charlotte is kicking a terrible moment when you are sitting just a part of a playoff spot.

A christmas story quotes

A christmas story quotes-In honor of that great holiday tradition, the 24-hour marathon of A Christmas Story, here are a few of the film's memorable quotes jiggered just slightly to help us put Sunday's New York Giants-Philadelphia Eagles game into perspective.

"In the heat of battle Tom Coughlin wove a tapestry of obscenities that as far as we know is still hanging in space over Lake Michigan."

"Matt Dodge lay there like a slug; it was his only defense."

"Michael Vick created a slight breach of etiquette by skipping the triple dare and going right for the throat."

"Only one thing in the world could have dragged me away from the soft glow of electric sex gleaming in the window, and that was the Giants defense suffering a historic collapse."

"I have since heard of New York Giants under extreme duress speaking in strange tongues."

"Only Tom Coughlin didn't say, ‘Fudge.' He said THE word, the big one, the queen-mother of dirty words, the ‘F-dash-dash-dash' word."

"DeSean Jackson! What a rotten name! We were trapped. There he stood, between us and a win. DeSean Jackson staring out at us with his yellow eyes. He had yellow eyes! So help me God, yellow eyes!"

"Now, I had heard that word at least 10 times a day from my old man. He worked in profanity the way other artists might work in oils or clay. It was his true medium; a master. But, I chickened out and said the first name that came to mind. Vick!"

"The Eagles will shoot your eye out, kid."

And now on to the top stories of the week in the world of New York sports.

The Ghost of Joe Pisarcik: As soon as the game ended, I muttered to myself, "That's the worse loss in . . ." And then my six-year-old daughter helped me finish my sentence: "The history of the world?" Yes, that's it! It was the worst loss in the history of the world. We'll let the Giant players and coaches take it from here. Tom Coughlin: "I've never been around anything like this in my life. It's about as empty as you get to feel in this business, right there." Kevin Boss: "I'm in disbelief . . .I'm in shock." Barry Cofield: "Disgusted and devasted." Eli Manning: "Just shock. Just unbelievable. Just kind of how did that happen?" But if the Giants win on Sunday, they clinch a playoff berth. We'll see if Manning's rousing speech on Monday did the trick. And how come every time the Giants lose a game, Bill Cowher, Michael Strahan and Tiki Barber crawl out of the woodwork?

F-E-E-T, Feet! Feet! Feet! The New York Jets' world was filled with inspirational speeches and You Tube videos this week. Mark Sanchez gave a speech to his teammates on Monday, and Rex Ryan cried again, while motivating his team on Saturday night. He didn't ask the team to win one for the Gipper, but instead to win one for his wife's feet. But the speeches worked like a charm, as the Jets won at Pittsburgh for the first time ever. The victory was impressive anyway you look at it, with all phases chipping in. Ryan and Brian Schottenheimer had strong games. Sanchez's bootleg touchdown was a gutsy call, and the players executed it to perfection. Special teams got the ball rolling, with Brad Smith's game-opening kickoff return touchdown, which was the third of his career. And the defense came through, with Jason Taylor's clutch safety and the big stop at the end, when Marquice Cole broke up the final pass of the game. It was a thrilling, nerve-wracking finish, as Dustin Keller noted, "You didn't know whether to be excited or throw up. You were somewhere in the middle." Like the Giants, a win this Sunday clinches a playoff spot for Gang Green, though they may have to do it without Sanchez. But after the week Ryan just had, does anybody even remember any of that happening?

The Dream (Week) Is Over: The New York Knicks closed out Dream Week last Friday with a loss to the Miami Heat. Only LeBron James and his new role as NBA villain can make $100-million man Amar'e Stoudemire and the Knicks look like gritty, blue-collar underdogs. There was one good thing that came from that loss: Spike Lee didn't get a chance to run around celebrating on the court like a wild man. The week took its toll on the players as they fell in overtime to the LeBron-less Cavaliers the following night. But on Wednesday, after a refreshing three days of rest and relaxation, they got back on the right track with an impressive win over Oklahoma City.

Two Out of Four Ain't Bad: Amid a whirl of Carmelo Anthony rumors, the New Jersey Nets had to play four games this week, and they fared fairly well, winning two of them. After losing to Toronto, 98-92, on Friday, they came out victorious two games in a row, defeating the Hawks on Sunday, with a big contribution from their bench, and beating the Grizzlies, 101-94, on Tuesday. They fell to New Orleans on Wednesday, though. Sasha Vujacic has been a nice shot in the arm for the team, complementing Devin Harris, Brook Lopez and Kris Humphries. They may just win more than 12 games this year after all. Unless LeBron James has them contracted before they get a chance.

Red Hot: The New York Islanders are absolutely on fire. They're 3-0-1 in their last four games. Mike Mottau is out for the season and Rick DiPietro is on injured reserve once again, but Josh Bailey is back up from the minors and he made his presence felt by scoring two goals and adding an assist in the team's decimation of the New Jersey Devils on Thursday night. John Tavares was the hero in Wednesday's overtime win over Tampa Bay. They've passed the Devils in the standings, and there's no stopping them now.

Goodbye John, Welcome Back Jacques: Lou Lamoriello just couldn't take it anymore, and fired another coach. John MacLean now joins the ranks of Bryan Trottier as local heroes who just couldn't cut it as coach for even a full season. And as Lamoriello usually does, he brought back an ex-Devil coach yet again. Welcome back, Jacques Lemaire, we hardly had a chance to miss you. Oh yeah, New Jersey lost about nine games this past week

One Malik Short: It was a quiet week for the New York Rangers. They lost on Sunday to Philadelphia, and fell short in a marathon shootout to Tampa Bay on Thursday. Derek Stepan came up with a huge third-period goal to get the game to overtime. Marian Gaborik was out with a groin injury, though, and was replaced by diminutive Norwegian Mats Zuccarello, who put the puck in the back of the net in the third round of the shootout after playing a strong game. Unfortunately, it took the Blueshirts 11 rounds to finally lose. Where's Marek Malik when you need him?

The Bionic Arm: Perpetual Pedro Feliciano moved across town and signed a two-year, $8 million deal with the New York Yankees. He set a new Met record for appearances almost every year he pitched, along with leading the league the last three seasons, and he didn't even beat up the grandfather of his children, which is rare for a New York Met reliever.

Poinsettia Bowl

The Poinsettia Bowl-Less than a day after much Qualcomm Stadium was submerged under flood waters, the field is dry and the parking lot is ready to receive thousands of football fans for the Poinsettia Bowl.

Wednesday, much of the playing field was less than 2 feet of water and more than half of the huge stadium parking lot was submerged. At about 3:30 p.m., Poinsettia Bowl Exec. Director Bruce Binkowski met with city officials and stadium staff to plan how to get the venue ready for the bowl game between Navy and the SDSU Aztecs.
"We knew we had a lot of water on the stadium to get out, and a lot of great people put their heads together," Binkowski said.
An outside company brought in a giant pump which worked through the night to siphon about 1.5 million gallons of water off the playing field, Binkowski said. Meanwhile, the San Diego River receded, and crews used heavy equipment to remove mud and debris from the parking lot.

The playing field was protected by a tarp during the rainstorms. Crew uncovered it at about 4 a.m., and by mid-morning it was dry enough to paint the game logo on the turf, Binkowski said.
"The fact that it made this field playable is a tribute to all the people who work here," he said.
Officials haven't added up to cost of cleaning up from the flooding yet, but taxpayers won't be footing the bill, Binkowski promised.

Most of the parking spaces in the stadium's gigantic lot will be usable, but officials are still recommending that the 51,000 fans that have tickets for the game use public transportation to get to the stadium.
"Get to the game early. Use the trolley," Binkowski said. "All the pageantry begins at 4:30 and kickoff is at 5:06 p.m. We're going to have a great night of college football."
The Metropolitan Transit Service added trolleys for the Green Line that goes to the stadium, said Judy Leitner of the Metropolitan Transit System.

The parking lot is scheduled to open at 11 a.m. Off-site parking is available, for a fee, at San Diego State University, the Mission City Corporate Center on Northside Drive, the Marriott Mission Valley on Rio San Diego Drive, and the Town and County Hotel on Hotel Circle North.
All but the SDSU site are in Mission Valley so are potentially affected by high water.
Ticket sales will set a record for the Poinsettia Bowl, which has been played once a year while 2005. The previous largest crowd was 39,129, when Navy played Utah in 2007.

Terrelle Pryor

Ohio State Players Pryor  Suspended for Five Games
-The latest event in a 2010 college football season defined by suspensions, investigations and controversy has assured that a cloud of scandal will hang over the 2011 season.
The N.C.A.A. on Thursday suspended five Ohio State players, including quarterback Terrelle Pryor and three other starters, for five games next season for accepting improper benefits. They are, however, eligible to play in the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 4, when the Buckeyes will face Arkansas.
The violations included selling memorabilia like Big Ten championship rings and accepting discounted prices from the owner of a tattoo parlor in Columbus, Ohio.
“These are significant penalty based on findings and information provided by the university,” said Kevin Lennon, the N.C.A.A. vice president of academic and membership affairs.
While Ohio State will appeal the length of the suspensions, the news was a serious blow to one of college football’s premier programs. Pryor, who came to Ohio State as one of the most celebrated high school football recruits in recent memory, is the biggest star on campus and would have been a favourite to win the Heisman Trophy next season.
Of the other three suspended starters, tailback Dan Herron led the Buckeyes in rushing this season and DeVier Posey was the second-leading receiver. The third, left tackle Mike Adams, had a solid season after his first two years at Ohio State were marked by suspensions and underwhelming performances. The fifth player, defensive lineman Solomon Thomas, is a reserve. The players, who are all juniors, must pay between $1,000 and $2,500 to charity, depending on the amount each received for their items. (The N.C.A.A. also announced that the freshman linebacker Jordan Whiting will be suspended for a game. He has to repay $150 in discounts he received at the tattoo parlor.
Pryor owes $2,500 for selling his 2008 Big Ten championship ring; the sportsmanship award he won at the 2009 Fiesta Bowl; and his gold pants, a small charm given to Buckeyes players who beat Michigan.
“Whatever the next step of gut-wrenching is, that’s the way you feel,” Ohio State Coach Jim Tressel said of the situation.
The N.C.A.A. said that the suspensions would have been four games, but an additional game was added because the players did not immediately disclose the violations when they became aware that they were illegal.
As it is nearly every year, Ohio State was expected to be one of the top contenders for the national title next season. While Pryor would have received much of the preseason attention, Herron, Posey and Adams would all be considered potential all-Big Ten Conference performers. Faced with the prospect of sitting out nearly half of their senior seasons, the players could choose to enter April’s N.F.L. draft and use the Sugar Bowl as an audition of sorts.
“I’m not sure this would be the most advantageous time to have a job interview,” Tressel said.
If the appeals are denied, the players will miss games against Akron, Toldeo, Miami, Colorado and Michigan State. Even without the suspended players, the Buckeyes might only be underdogs against Miami, the only road game among the five, and Michigan State. The players would return for Ohio State’s Oct. 8 game at Nebraska, which will be in its first season in the Big Ten.
The ruling does not help Pryor, who is regarded by N.F.L. personnel evaluators as a project on and off the field.
“He needs to grow up, work on his consistency and grow into the leader that I think he can be,” said Dave Razzano, who worked as an N.F.L. scout for 22 years. “I wouldn’t touch him with a 10-foot pole.”

Ohio state football schedule 2011

The Ohio state football schedule 2011-Ohio State Football Schedule is out!! However Terrelle Pryor and few other players are suspended.

Six student-athletes on The Ohio State University football team have been suspended for NCAA violations, the school said Thursday. Terrelle Pryor and company will miss the first five games of the 2011 Ohio St. Buckeyes football season.

Terrelle Pryor  has total 196 Completions Passing  and 298 Passing Attempts. Passing Completion % is 65.8. Total Passing Yards is 2551 and Passing Yards per Attempt is 8.6. Passing Touchdowns are 25. Overall Total Interceptions were 11 in 19 time Sacked with total -113 Sack Yard Lost.  Terrelle Pryor  Quarterback Rating is 196. Terrelle Pryor  made Total 120 Rushing Attempts with total 639 Rushing Yards. Yards Per Rush are 5.3. Total Rusing Touchdowns are 4 having Longest Run of 66. Total 100 Yards Rushing Game are 120.

Athletic director Gene Smith said the players were trying to help their families. The idea that a Buckeye would sell a Big Ten championship ring—as Mr. Pryor did—seems unconscionable, but, says former OSU quarterback Stanley Jackson, “I know what it’s like to grow up in poverty.”

Kevin Lennon, NCAA vice president of academic and membership affairs, said the penalties were “significant” and “based on findings and information provided by the university.”
